Dr Lady Elizabeth-Ann Redgrave has been elected a Steward of the Regatta.
Ann was educated in Berkshire where she attended Maidenhead High School for Girls. Ann started rowing in 1981 when she first became interested in Sports Preventative Medicine. She represented Great Britain in the Los Angeles Olympics 1984 in the women’s eights. In 1986, Ann rowed at the Commonwealth Games in an eight and a four, being placed second and third respectively.
Ann qualified as a doctor from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1984 and initially pursued a career in orthopaedic surgery with an interest in sports medicine. Whilst on sabbatical she decided to cross train as an Osteopath qualifying in 1990, establishing the Redgrave Clinic in Bourne End. Ann studied for her Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary’s University of London.
Her interest in Sports Medicine led her to volunteer as the British Women’s Rowing Doctor in 1990, and in 1992 - 2001 she became the Chief Medical Officer of British Rowing. In 2008 Ann was offered a full-time position to help prepare the Rowing Team for the home Olympics in 2012 and the Rio Olympics 2016.
Ann’s services to Sports Medicine have been acknowledged by the academic world with the award of three honorary degrees, from Loughborough University in 2001, University of Staffordshire in 2004 and Exeter University in 2010. GB Rowing awarded her the Medal of Honour in 2001.
Ann was Captain of Marlow Rowing Club in 1990/91, former President of London University Boat Club, President of Marlow Town Regatta & Festival and a Patron of Henley Women’s Regatta.
Ann is married to Sir Steve Redgrave and has two daughters and a son.
